Buddy Chicago
Buddy Chicago, signage & messaging, 2022
project by D. Josh Cook, Oscar Solis, and Layne Thue-Bludworth
Buddy Chicago, an artist hub and shop located in the Chicago Cultural Center, provides visibility and opportunities to artists across the Chicagoland area through exhibitions, talks, workshops, performances, readings, and a retail space. This collaboration between Public Media Institute and the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) furthers both institutions’ goals of providing visibility and opportunities to artists across the Chicagoland area.
With all that Buddy is and does, our challenge was to nail down messaging that covers it all without sounding convoluted. We focused on driving visitors to the physical space where they could then explore and learn more about what Buddy is. From there, the layouts unfolded nicely thanks to the compelling visual language that Buddy has been using since its inception for outdoor and digital signage.
